George Cummins, world renowned rust specialist, collecting rust fungi on Sonoran Desert plants (ca. 1980). Born 29 August 1904, George was the last known living charter member of the MSA. He died 30 March 2007 in Tucson, Arizona, his home for many years. The third edition of his classic manual, Illustrated Genera of Rust Fungi, was published with Yasuyuki Hiratsuka, his former student, as coauthor (APS Press, 2003). Photograph M. Blackwell
