The native irises of Lousiana are a beautiful sight in the spring.  They have long been the subject of hybridization studies, including early work by Percy Viosca and Edgar Anderson's studies of introgressive hybridization.  Modern molecular studies by former LSU postdoctoral researcher, Mike Arnold, continue at the University of Georgia.  Photograph by Lowell Urbatsch
